INTERNSHIP - DESIGN OF GANTRY GIRDER

INTRODUCTION

This report deals with the Planning and Design of Industrial Structures covering Load calculations, Structural Stability, Computer Aided Design, Structural Connection details and the Design of Gantry Girders.

Structural steel design is the major role in industries to built-up with economy, serviceable, safety and durable structure. The process of design is to fulfill the needs of IS 800 codes AND IS 875 CODES for enhancing the structures by optimization.

Gantry girders are provided in industrial buildings to support overhead cranes for the transportation and lifting of heavy load. Gantry girders supported on columns, carry the moving cranes.

In manufacturing plant, it is essential to provide overhead travelling crane to transport heavy components of machines from one place to another. The movement of the load is of three-dimensional nature.

The crane is required to lift heavy mass vertically and horizontally, also the crane with load is required to move along the length of the shed. The cranes are either hand-or-electrically operated. The crane moves on rails which are at its ends. The rails are provided on a girder known as a gantry girder. The gantry girder spans over gantry columns.

CONCLUSION

In this internship programme Design and Detailing of Gantry girder has been carried out as per IS Codes by using software Staad pro.

The gantry girder is designed for the good possible cases of loading with consideration of maximum load. Also, it is desirable to make the girders entirely self-supporting in the adjacent side. Material handling is a consequential practical consideration in the design of gantry girder. Provide better material handling systems and practices.  Material handling uses different equipment and mechanisms.

The structure is useful for carrying heavy load from one place to another easily. The structure is designed as per Indian standard codes. Thus, gantry girders should be utilized in India on a larger scale in order to maximize the output of industrial operations.
